Thinking things and faraway things,

Won't you spend some time with me,

Such are the spaces in between,

Close, yet so far it seems,

      Check, pawn, king, checkmate move

      What a way for it to do,

      You'll do this if I do that,

      I'll do this if you do that,

One thing leads to another,

And meanwhile the world turns on   ------





Things aren't the way they seem to be,

The water is deeper than we care to see,

Who's got time for a measuring pole,

When some would rather jump in a hole ---

      Lip service paid to those who flee,

      From gates opened that show what isn't free -

      Those who don't stand on water stand on rocks,

      They're the ones in secret who say its not,

How sweet do you like your tea ,

And meanwhile the world spins round   -----



The way things were meant to be,

Everyones opinion is crushing me -

Of time and breath used and abused,

And then its usually found out whose -

      Unusually, past the grave too late to hide,

      It taxes itself on the mind,

      To observe life other than gain,

      To have seen it, is to see -

From dust to dust,

And meanwhile the earth goes on   ------
